                                            Ground Breaking Ceremony

By Salena Marie Garcia

Saturday was a great day for new beginnings. That was the day CEC commemorated the start of a new edition to the middle school. The ceremony included an introduction by Mark Mendez, President of the School Board. A speech by Steve Gomes, our superintendent, another, more humorous speech by Mr. Nava, CEC’s principle. These were followed by many more, including free food. But one of the most memorable parts of the ceremony came from an 8th grade girl, Salena Marie Garcia. She wrote a poem about what the MP building meant to the students:

Ground Breaking Ceremony

By Salena Garcia

If there’s one thing to say about       And now a new edition                                No more strenuous P.E. classes

CECMS,                                                  To our amazing school.                               In the scorching sun.

It’s that our time here has                 We got the vote, because, after all,          The students are all with me

Been the absolute best.                      CEC rules.                                                       When I say it sure isn’t fun.

From 6th grade, to 7th, to 8th               And this multi-purpose room                    And finally, no more blistering cold breaks

Grade at last,                                        Makes us so happy we could sing             In the morning or the afternoon.

I’m sorry to say that our                    It’s made us so joyous                                 And now it’s winter,

Last year has passed.                         Because of a number of things:                 We hope our prize comes soon.

We’ve studied all the subjects,         No more assembly cancellations             So, all in all,

And aced all the tests.                        Because of the weather.                             We’d like to say,

How far we’ve come,                          And I’m sure we all agree                         “Thank you, Planada,

No one would have guessed.            That this is way better.                              For saving the day!

English Language Arts

By Denise Flores

Literature is very important here at CEC.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are basically going over the same subjects. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get things right. The 6th graders are working on expository essays and nouns and predicates. The 7th graders are working on response to literatures and adjectives.

The 8th graders are working on persuasive essays and going over verbs and their tenses and different types of nouns and verbs. As you can see, CECMS takes literature seriously.

Athletics

M.E.Ch.A.

By Rafael Nava

At the game on Tuesday, we played against Le Grand. After warming up, our “A” girl’s basketball team tried hard, but could not acquire a victory. On the other hand, the “A” boy’s team won. It was a very close game all four quarters, but in the end, they pulled through with a score of 32-29. Go Tigers!

By Patricia Torres

Any future events include the arrival of new T-shirts and sweat shirts for officers of Me.Ch.A.

M.E.Ch.A also sells snacks on Mondays and Fridays.
